Sam is a smart computer hacker seeking a better life, but his choices always seem to be wrong. Even under the watchful eye of probation officer Harry, he continues to make bad decisions. Sam's only solace comes from spending time with his best friend and fellow hacker, Stanley. They eat fast food together and Sam pretends to be a postal worker in order to steal people's emails for a living. However, their luck changes when they receive an unexpected letter that will change everything.
The letter was written by Josie, a beautiful widow who had lost her husband in Afghanistan to the war. Her love-letters to him were found by Sam and it awakened something within him. He yearned for such love and began stealing more letters. Eventually, he mustered up the courage to introduce himself and they became increasingly close. As Josie grew more comfortable with the idea of starting over, Sam remembered some of the values he had learned as a child.
However, Sam's past catches up with him when he is confronted by a combative FBI agent who wants to take back what he lost. When Josie discovers the truth, she must decide whether betrayal will force her back into a life of poverty or if she will follow Sam into a new future full of promise.
