George Washington High School, located approximately a mile and a half from our apartment, was among the largest and most prestigious public schools in the city. Its academic excellence and reputation made it a popular choice among students and their families alike. However, for one young student named David, his school life became defined by teachers taking books out of his hands, telling him to sit down and listen with the rest of the kids.
As summer approached, many students in the city started to enjoy their well-deserved vacation time. The warm, sunny weather and the absence of classes meant that David could finally relax and take a break from his academic responsibilities. It was a time for him to recharge his batteries and spend quality time with his family and friends.
However, this idyllic scene was not always the case. An adult bicycling on his way out of town could have yelled at them from the road, asking why they were not in school. This would have been a rude reminder of the importance of education and the consequences of neglecting it. Despite this occasional reminder, most students were content with their summer break and looked forward to returning to school in the fall.
