The first story is about connecting the dots. I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? Well it was kinda fun and I decided to go to the countryside to see what it was like. It was amazing at first, the people were so nice and welcoming. I felt right at home. But after a few weeks I had this feeling that I just wasn't cut out for the country life. That something was missing.

Well it was kinda fun and I decided to go to the countryside to see what it was like. It was amazing at first, the people were so nice and welcoming. I felt right at home. But after a few weeks I had this feeling that I just wasn't cut out for the country life. That something was missing.

Then I met some people who were interesting but not very nice. So I decided to join a club. I didn't know anything about computers but I thought it would be fun to learn. She showed me how to do some cool tricks on the computer and we hit it off immediately. We started dating and soon we were inseparable.

My story began before I was even born. When my biological mother became pregnant, she decided to give me up for adoption because she wanted me to be raised by a couple who had already finished college. Everything was set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. However, when it was time for me to be born, the lawyer and his wife changed their minds and wanted a girl instead.

My parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking if they wanted an unexpected baby boy. They replied that they did, and everything seemed to be going according to plan. However, things changed when my biological mother found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers and only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would eventually go to college.

This experience has taught me the importance of education and the impact it can have on one's life. It has also taught me the value of family and how important it is to have supportive people in your life who believe in you and are there for you through thick and thin. Overall, while the beginning of my story may not have been as planned, I am grateful for the experiences and people that have shaped me into the person I am today.

It wasn't all romantic I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms. I returned coke bottles for the 5-cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out, I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

Without dropping out of college, I may never have stumbled upon this calligraphy class and personal computers would not have the wonderful typography that they do today. Looking back ten years later, it is clear that Microsoft copied Macs at the time. However, in hindsight, it was impossible to connect the dots when I was in college. It is only when we look backwards that we can see how everything connects together.

The saying, "you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards" rings true in this case. While it may be difficult to predict the future, we must trust that the dots will somehow connect in our lives. We must have faith in something - our intuition, destiny, life path, karma, or whatever it may be. This approach has proven to be reliable for me and has made a significant difference in my life.

In conclusion, sometimes it takes a bit of hindsight to fully understand the interconnectedness of events. While we can't predict the future with certainty, having faith in our instincts and trusting that things will work out in the end can give us peace of mind and make all the difference.

was fired How could that be, from the company I had started? Well, as Apple grew, we hired someone I believed to be exceptionally talented to join me in running the business. For the first year or so, things went well. But then our visions for the future began to diverge, and eventually, we ended up having a falling out. When it happened, our Board of Directors sided with him. So, at the age of 30, I was out. And very publicly out. The focus of my entire adult life had vanished, leaving me devastated.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months after that. I felt like I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton just as it was being passed to me. To make matters worse, I had met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly.

In addition to these professional pursuits, I also found love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Her name was Laurene and she shared my passion for creativity and innovation. Together, we built a strong foundation of love and support that would sustain us through the ups and downs of life.

One of our greatest achievements was the creation of the world's first computer animated feature film, Toy Story. This film was a breakthrough moment in the history of animation and helped establish Pixar as one of the most successful animation studios in the world today.

However, our journey was not without its challenges. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple purchased NeXT in 1997. Despite this setback, I remained loyal to my vision and returned to Apple after a brief period of time.

It was during this return that I realized the technology we had developed at NeXT was at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. This realization inspired me to continue pursuing my passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries of what was possible.

Today, Laurene and I are happily married with a wonderful family together. Our experiences over the past few decades have taught us the importance of perseverance, hard work, and faith in oneself. We look forward to continuing our journey together and making new memories along the way.

'm certain that none of these events would have occurred had I not been terminated from Apple. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but I believe the patient required it. At times, life can come crashing down on you with a forceful blow. Never lose faith. My unwavering belief is that my determination to continue forward stemmed from my deep passion for what I do. You must seek out what you love.

And that is true for your work as well as for your lovers. Your work is going to occupy a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is excellent work. And the only way to accomplish great work is to love what you do. If you haven't discovered it yet, keep searching. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you will know when you find it. Additionally, just like any significant relationship, it only gets better with time. So continue looking until you find it. Don't settle!

My third story is related to death.

Facing Death

I remember the day vividly. I had just received a biopsy, and the results were grim. The diagnosis was devastating: I had pancreatic cancer. I lived with that diagnosis all day long, feeling helpless and overwhelmed by the thought of facing death. But later that evening, my life changed forever.

During the biopsy, doctors inserted an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach, and into my intestines. They then put a needle into my pancreas and took some cells from the tumor. Although I was sedated, my wife was there to witness it all. When the doctors viewed the cells under a microscope, they started crying. It turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery.

The surgery was risky, but I decided to go through with it. It was the closest I have ever been to facing death, and it remains one of the most difficult experiences of my life. However, after surviving this ordeal, I now have a newfound appreciation for life and a deeper understanding of what it truly means to value every moment.

In conclusion, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story with you. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept: life is precious, and we must cherish every moment we have. No matter how challenging our circumstances may be, we must never lose hope or give up on ourselves. With determination and perseverance, we can overcome even the most daunting obstacles and emerge stronger and more resilient than before.

Thank you. Apple has grown like a weed, and as you know, we've always been in Cupertino. Started in an office par, eventually, got the buildings we are in now, the corner of the ends of 280. And those buildings hold maybe 2600 or 2800 people. But we've got almost 12,000 people in the area. So we're renting buildings — not very good buildings, either — at an ever-greater radius from our campus and we're putting people in those. It is clear that we need to build new campus, so we just add space. That doesn't mean we don't need the one we have; we do need it, but we need another one to augment it. So we've got a plan that lets us stay in Cupertino.

What we've done is we bought this land right here. We try to buy the apartments at the corner but they are not for sale, so we couldn't buy those. And we bought everything else. And the campus we like to build there is one building holds 12,000 people. And it is a pretty amazing building. Let me show it to you. It's a little like a spaceship landed, there it is, and it's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle, but a lot more. So let's take a close look at it. It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved.We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. We can make it curve all the way around the building. And you can see what it look like. It is pretty cool. Again, today, about 20% of the space is landscaping, several big asphalt parking lots. So 20% of this is landscape, we want to completely change this. And we want to make 80% of landscape, and the way we're gonna do this is we're gonna put most of the parking underground.So we can have 80% of landscape, and you can see what we've in mind. I mean there is nothing like this in the property now. It's pretty bad. Today there are 3700 trees on the property; we'd like to just almost double that. We've hired one of the senior arborists from Stanford actually who is very good with indigenous trees around this area. So we'd like to plant a lot of trees including some apricot orchards.

Again you can see what it might be like. This is some of the infrastructure. The main building, we have parking underneath the main building. That's not enough unfortunately. We have a parking structure here as well. The building's four stories high as is the parking structure. There's nothing high here at all. We want the whole place human scale. It's actually about the same as we have in Cupertino right now. An energy center, we deal with - people using, sitting at computers all day writing software.And if the power goes out on the grid, we get to send everybody home. So we have to have backup power to power the place in the event brownouts and stuff. And I think what we're gonna end up doing is making the energy center our primary source of power because we can generate power with Natural Gas and other ways that can be cleaner and cheaper and use the grid as our backup.

We've got an auditorium because we put on presentations. Much like we did yesterday but we have to go to San Francisco to do them. Fitness center and some R&D facilities, these are just things that where we do testing and we need some buildings to test in and there's hardly any people in them. So this is roughly the kind of thing we're thinking about. We think about 12,000 people, I put 13,000 on the slides, just because we may make a little luckier than 12,000. We're up roughly 40% in people V.S. What the site has been used for already and we're increasing space to 3.1 million square feet. So 20% increase in space.

The landscaping though increases by 350%, which is nice, trees by 60%. The surface parking goes down by 90%. And so I think the overall feeling of the place is gonna be zillion times better than it is now with all the asphalt. And the building footprint actually goes down by 30%. So, we wanna take the space and in many cases making it smaller. We're putting more of desirable things on the space and that's what we like to do. So just wanna give you a look at it.

This is a cafe. We have cafe as our facilities. And this cafe will, you know, feed the better part of the 3,000 people sitting. That's what you need when you 12,000 people in the campus. So that's what we're looking at. I'd love to answer your questions if you have any?

我们的工作要对着电脑一刻不停地写程序，所以正常的工作离不开能源中心。要是没电，大家只能回家洗洗睡了。所以需要后备电源，能源中心将用天然气或其他绿色能源发电。我们希望将其作为主要的电力来源，把国家电网用作后备电源。这里将修建一个大礼堂，我们就不用像昨天那样跑到旧金山去开会了。这里是健身中心和研发大楼，这个地方专门用来做测试，里面没有员工。这就是我们的设想。苹果现有12000名员工，但可能增加到13000人。将来这里可以多容纳40%的员工，增加20%的使用面积，这样总面积达到了310万平方英尺。绿化面积增长350%,植树量增长60%,地上停车面积减少90%。你会爱上这片土地的，这比一滴沥青给力多了。建筑占地面积将减少30%。减少建筑面积。这样就有更多的空间留给想象力去发挥。这里是家咖啡厅，这个可以有，你懂的。它能容纳3000人同时就餐。足足有12000名员工在此贡献智慧，所以我们需要那么大的容量。我的介绍到此为止，有什么问题吗？

I have a quick question, and I believe many residents are curious about what the new campus could bring to the city.

As you may know, we are the largest taxpayer in Cupertino, so it is important for us to continue residing here and paying taxes. Our main objective is to maintain our presence in Cupertino. If we were forced to move somewhere else, such as Mountain View, we would have to take along many people with us and sell off the land over time. This would result in the loss of our largest tax base, which would be detrimental to Cupertino.

Cupertino could benefit from the influx of tax base and talented people who are getting paid. To achieve this goal, we need to focus on two key points.

Firstly, we have to be welcoming to people of all ages. We should employ great people across the entire age spectrum, including those who just graduated from college and those in their 50s or even 60s, like myself. A lot of our employees want to live around where they work, which is why we encourage biking to work and run a bus service that operates on bio-diesel fuel. Our buses are the cleanest you can buy, and they travel all the way from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, bringing people in and out of Cupertino.

Secondly, there is plenty of natural beauty in Cupertino that we can take advantage of. The whole lot of trees makes it a wonderful place to live. By focusing on these two aspects, we can create a community that is both prosperous and attractive to talent and visitors alike.

So, Mr Jobs is very well familiar with the City of Cuperino. So, we're very fortunate that you founded here in Cuperino. You started to expand here in Cupertino. There are many choices across the country and I'm sure that many governors and many mayors said please come to us, but you decided to stay here and I think it's because Cupertino is such an innovative place, a diverse place, and education-wise that we have such wonderful schools here some other students on how they got awarded in our school that are doing so well. One thing that I wanna ask you is to keep in mind is giving back to the community and one thing that we would love to do. I'm sure that our staff will talk about is that we don't like going to Valley or Los Gatos for an Apple store. We would love to have an Apple store here Cupertino. And I can assure you, I even have, you know, my iPad 2 here, which I love, you know, so cooperate with me, but you know, it's a wonderful technology and my 11-year-old girl just loves this iPad2.
