The State Street Stage, with its iconic Bristol Sign glowing 100 years strong, was once situated just one block up on State Street – close to the Paramount Theater. As the audience size grew, the stage was moved further back to accommodate more people. I find this view of a sea of people towards the sign to be particularly captivating. It's also an excellent spot for capturing memorable photos!
The Piedmont Stage has undergone some changes over the years. Its first location was in front of Burger Bar, facing Stateline Bar & Grille. Later, it was moved to the corner of Goode and Piedmont. It seems that we have found its final resting place! This stage is located near our beloved Bristol Public Library, which underwent renovations in the 1990s. The stunning metal sculpture archway at the corner of Goode and Piedmont was created by internationally renowned fantasy artist Charles Vess for the library. Over the years, he has also designed three festival posters for Bristol Rhythm.
The Country Music Mural Stage is a unique and vibrant space within the festival grounds. It features an impressive mural depicting scenes from country music history, complete with vintage cars and musicians dressed in period attire. This stage serves as a fitting tribute to the genre's rich heritage and provides a stunning backdrop for performances.
The Country Music Mural Stage is primarily dedicated to bluegrass and traditional country music. Located in front of the Country Music Mural in Bristol, Tennessee, this stage was constructed many years ago to host live music all year round. Initially, it was utilized at the Bristol Rhythm, where fans could enjoy great photo opportunities. The new stage offers festival-goers more shaded seating on the original stage, while also providing better access for artists and sound technicians. Designed by Tim White, a local musician and producer/host of Song of the Mountains, the Country Music Mural Stage is an essential landmark in Historic Downtown Bristol.

umberland Square Park in Bristol, Virginia is a popular destination for live music events year-round. The City of Bristol has constructed a massive permanent stage here that provides shade and a comfortable setting for music lovers. The Paramount Bristol is the crown jewel of Historic Downtown, and it has been a beloved venue for live entertainment since opening its doors in 1931. Unfortunately, during the late 1960s and 1970s, as Bristol's downtown fell into decline, the theater experienced some hard times. Sadly, in 1979, the theater closed its doors forever. However, in 1991, the nonprofit Paramount Foundation stepped in and saved this gorgeous art deco gem, reopening it to the public. Today, it is a thriving performing arts center and an excellent venue for live music. During Bristol Rhythm, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable listening room experience at this incredible venue.
2. The Cameo Theater
After a long hiatus, the Cameo Theatre is back! Originally established as a vaudeville theater in 1925, The Cameo ranks among the 15 oldest theaters in Virginia. A much-anticipated restoration of this 550-seat beauty has been made by owner Brent Buchanan, who plans to host a mix of live entertainment and films. The sound quality in this space for live music is outstanding, making it an excellent venue for concerts. Additionally, there is an amazing balcony space for taking in shows from above. The seventh Street Stage has morphed quite a bit over the past few years. Its location is beside the century-old L.C. King Manufacturing Co., family-owned in Bristol for four generations. We highly recommend browsing the racks for some authentic Pointer Brand clothing. It’s become the unofficial outfitter of festival musicians, as they flock to its showroom every year in search of cool duds.

Located just steps away from the Paramount Theatre, Theatre Bristol, and State Street Stages, the Machiavelli’s Outdoor Tent is an extension of the popular 5th Street restaurant. This lively venue hosts a variety of events, making it a hub for entertainment in the area. The tent's vibrant atmosphere and exciting performances make it easy to see why it's known as the "distraction" stage. In fact, the first year St. Paul & The Broken Bones played at the festival, they performed under this tent. 3. Theatre Bristol
Located right across the street from our offices, Theatre Bristol is a beloved institution in our community since it was established as a children's theater back in 1965. This intimate space can comfortably seat up to 100 people, making it perfect for intimate performances. However, larger productions are often moved to the nearby Paramount theater. Over the years, generations of Bristolians have grown up with Theatre Bristol and continue to appreciate its dedication to educating children on the wonders of live theater year-round. With hundreds of great performances taking place in this space over the years, it holds a special place in our hearts!
14. Stateline Bar & Grille
Another must-visit spot in our neighborhood is the Stateline Bar & Grille. Located just down the street from Theatre Bristol, this popular establishment offers a wide selection of dishes and drinks, including delicious Italian nachos that we simply can't resist. We also love indulging in their Margherita pizza and Mediterranean pasta, which always satisfy our cravings. Overall, Stateline Bar & Grille is another great addition to our neighborhood, providing us with excellent food and drinks while also creating a welcoming atmosphere. As grateful neighbors, we look forward to enjoying these local favorites whenever we have free time!
Stateline Bar & Grille has been a fixture on State Street since 2002. The building's restoration was part of the initial wave of restaurant projects on State Street during a pivotal period of investment, and owners Annette Estes and Amy Booher set the bar high for other restaurateurs with their business acumen and work ethic. It's an ideal spot to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal while taking in live music during the festival! The woodwork inside is a testament to craftsmanship at its finest. The exquisite bar, mirrors, and fixtures were acquired by Fred Bartlett for his Rockefeller's Oyster Bar at this location in the 1990s. He purchased it from a downtown bank that was shutting down. Workers literally transported the bar down State Street from its previous location.
Borderline Billiards is owned by the WPBA billiards champion Janet Atwell, and it has undergone significant renovations throughout the years. On regular weekdays, the pool tables are open for friendly competition, but during festivals, they are covered to allow patrons to enjoy music. In recent years, Borderline has set up a beverage garden located behind the building and beside the 7th Street Stage/Dance Tent. This classy alternative to the typical "pool hall" offers a family-friendly environment with nine Brunswick Gold Crown tables, where customers can order food from the menu, play darts, or engage in ping pong. This fantastic addition to Downtown Bristol is an excellent spot to spend time with friends and family.
The band plays at Studio Brew in 2019. This establishment is located downtown, and it is owned by Jeff Tickle, Blair Jones, and J.J. Gillenwater of The Albatross Group. Studio Brew is one of the only chain restaurants to feature a Corvette mounted above the ceiling. It has an automotive-inspired theme that showcases vintage cars and garage memorabilia. Additionally, this restaurant hosts bike nights throughout the year, providing entertainment for customers who are into cycling.
Hot wings are their specialty, and they serve them as fuel to get you revved up between or during sets. If there's anything that will make your experience at the restaurant even better, it's the fact that it's only a smidge away from where they play at night.
hanghai Stage is a hidden gem located off the beaten path, but well worth a brisk walk past Cumberland Square Park. This establishment was among the first craft breweries to locate in downtown, opening the tap for a wave of others to follow. Studio Brew, owned by Master Brewer Erich Allen, is an artisanal brewery that has renovated a historic train freight warehouse built in 1909 on Moore Street. The brewery brews, bottles, seals, and ships their recipes in this unique space.
Over time, Studio Brew has expanded its distribution throughout Tennessee, Virginia, and soon into South Carolina. Their tapas and brew pairings are only matched by the classy, yet warm atmosphere of the establishment. Visitors can enjoy a flight of robust and tasty recipes while peering into the brewing room, giving them an insight into the process of crafting their delicious beers.

hanghai Chinese Restaurant is a family-owned and operated establishment in Bristol. It has been run by Xian Chen and his wife, Ying, since 1996. The Chens and their three young children have worked hard to create a welcoming atmosphere for their delicious dishes, and over the years, Shanghai has earned the reputation of being the best Chinese restaurant in town. In recent years, the restaurant underwent an expansion to accommodate both its loyal customers and new ones. We highly recommend trying out the buffet during their Bristol Rhythm event, which offers a calming atmosphere with acoustic acts or singer-songwriters while you enjoy dumplings and rice. This experience is sure to leave you feeling satisfied and happy.
The Birthplace of Country Music Museum, located in the heart of our downtown family, is a fascinating museum that pays homage to the rich musical history of our region. Featuring interactive exhibits and multimedia displays, this museum offers visitors an immersive experience into the early days of country music, with artifacts and exhibits that trace its roots back to the late 1920s and 30s. The museum also hosts regular live performances and events, making it a popular destination for music lovers and history buffs alike. Whether you're looking to learn more about the genre or simply enjoy some live music, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum is a must-visit attraction in our town.
Though not technically a stage at Bristol Rhythm, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum's Performance Theater is known for its "acoustically perfect" sound. This unique venue hosts a number of Radio Bristol Sessions that community members can attend without purchasing a festival ticket. These programs are broadcast live on air in the Bristol area on 100.1 FM, and online at ListenRadioBristol.org. The lineups for these pop-up events are usually announced closer to the festival; be sure to follow social media for updates!
One notable example of a performance at the Performance Theater was by Indigo Girls when they visited Bristol in 2017. Due to the intimate nature of this venue, only 100 seats are available. It is recommended to arrive early if you want to secure a spot for one of these incredible shows!
